Raph, summer reading

Filed under: Book Club Violation, Look What I'm Reading for Book Club! — Joyce @ 10:20 pm

hi Raph-

I just picked up the Barack Obama memoir, DREAMS FROM MY FATHER. I look forward to reading it over the summer. Today I heard through the grape vine that you’ve read this? Is that true? If so, what did you think of it? I’m really interested to hear your reaction.

  1. Joyce,

Sorry for the very late response… I haven’t been on the blog for a long time. But anyways, I did read DREAMS FROM MY FATHER last semester and it was very good. I highly recommend it. It offers a very candid look into Obama’s life and what influenced him as a young man. The writing was the main draw for me. He has a way with words that few politicians do. If anything, it’s worth reading just to find out a little more about who we have to choose as the next President. I personally wish all of the candidates running could offer a work like this, something to remind us that they are actual human beings. Most of the time we are only offered autobiographies and books that seem like laundry lists of accomplishments and affiliations. In comparison to that self-serving drivel, Obama’s work is a breath of fresh air. I hope you enjoy it. Let me know what you think.
