Welcome to Texas Where It’s 1950 All Over Again!!

Filed under: from your prof — sunyprof @ 7:05 am

You know that I like Donalyn Miller’s blog. This latest post gives us one more example of the influence of the Right in school curricula. Take a look at how influential a small faction can be in determining what students will and will not read in Texas. She calls this post “No Anglo-Saxon Classic Left Behind.” Remember, this is Texas, where there are 2 million Hispanic schoolchildren. Read to the end since the story has a happier ending than might have been. KES

  1. I’m glad this story has a happy ending. It just goes to show that progressive educators can
fight back and win against the establishment. Maybe the reason why most schools still
practice archaic forms of pedagogy is that most teachers, students, parents, etc. remain
    silent.
