Twilight!

Filed under: Look What I'm Reading for Book Club! — katefrazer @ 3:32 pm

So this week for book club I am reading Twilight, by Stephanie Meyers.  I am completely loving this book!  I’m sure people have heard about it.  It belongs in a series about a girl name Bella who falls in love with a 17 year old vampire, Edward.  I don’t know exactly what it is about the book, but it’s very addicting.

My kids have been telling me good things about all of the books in this series almost since I started teaching.  I always thought about reading it, but I’m really not into fantasy and the whole vampire thing seemed a little weird to me.  However, I decided that this would be a good time to try a book that I normally wouldn’t read, and I’m glad I did.

While vampires obviously make this fantasy, the rest of the world is normal, and Bella herself initially thinks it’s crazy that the suspects that Edward and his entire family are vampires.  The strong ties to a normal non-fantasy world really made the jump to this genre accessible to me, as it may do with students.  While I’m still only about half way through this book, I can see why the girls in my class are drawn to it.

I definitely want to have Twilight in my classroom library, and the next two, soon to be three books as well. KATE

  2. Kate, So glad you are reading this. I have been meaning to get to it, but I have just started a Great and Terrible Beauty.
One of my girls at the YMCA read this whole series. I mean, she DEVOURED it. Then she made her mom read the books too.
Let me know what you think.
